In regards to chiropractic care, people generally feel that they fall into one of two buckets: Those that thoroughly and deeply believe in the positive effects of chiropractic and those that remain unclear or uncomfortable about the concept of joint manipulation. In reality, chiropractic is a much more nuanced field with a number of treatment methodologies and schools of thought, as are many health treatment options.
Most people know only the most common chiropractic care: Spinal manipulation, which is composed primarily of High-Velocity Low-Amplitude (HVLA) thrusts. By setting your body into a certain position and applying a low amount of suddenly-applied force, there is an (often) audible pop and immediate sense of release. This type of chiropractic therapy is often used to address musculoskeletal pain, reduced movement, and more.
Not all patients are willing or able to undergo spinal manipulation. For some, the popping is uncomfortable and others have pre-existing conditions that prevent them from being able to undergo the HVLA treatment. These patients undergo a gentler application of the chiropractic treatment that uses lower force, often aided by technology.
Many people are unclear as to what a chiropractor is. A true chiropractor is a doctor, in the same way that a medical doctor is, just in a different practice. Chiropractors attend a similar amount of schooling to your family physician, often ultimately ending up at a specialized chiropractic school. Our own Dr. Pearce is committed to progressing continued education and techniques for chiropractors everywhere and is proud to apply that experience here in Murfreesboro.
Our SIGMA Approach
In addition to more traditional chiropractic, we at Barfield Chiropractic are proud to offer Murfreesboro patients access to the SIGMA approach. Using this innovative system, we are able to measure the degree of joint restriction and muscular tension with incredible accuracy and provide up-to-date reporting to the patient as they undergo treatment. Additionally, the SIGMA instrument also uses gentle percussions to gently correct neck or back pain.
Chronic Back & Neck Pain
Back and neck pain is a temporary state for most of us, caused by something like a sports injury, prolonged sitting, or other environmental factors. For some unfortunate few, back and neck pain are more chronic, essentially failing to subside naturally. These patients often require more specialized care over time to correct the issues and provide back and neck pain relief. By working with your chiropractor, chronic neck and back pain can become little more than an annoyance or a bad memory.
